The bulletproof flag was created to honor the Black men and women who have been victims of unnecessary gun violence. A flag – a symbol and representation of a cause – was meant to spark conversation, empower the community and make a strong, symbolic statement in marches and demonstrations across the country.

Kevlar's strength comes from its internal structure and its fibers that are knitted tightly together. Using this material to create the flag represents fearlessness. It not only speaks out against the unnecessary gun violence, but also, how when people band together, a stronger, unstoppable, and more united force they become.

Over the course of 6 months we worked with artists in London and Canada to create the bulletproof flags. In 2018 Black Lives Matter will be using these flags to launch Black Lives Matter Canada, and spark conversations around the world.
